Hi, I'm Germano

I’m a Software Engineer with 5 years of experience, currently developing financial systems at Sicredi. I enjoy traveling, learning new musical instruments, and playing sports. Additionally, I’m always seeking constant growth to achieve my goals. I’d like to share my journey since I began my career, which has been filled with challenges and accomplishments.

The beginning of a journey

I was 17 years old when I began my professional journey. For a whole year, I participated in the Jovem Aprendiz Feevale project, which helped me secure my first job at Feevale University. The project focused on teaching basic tools for the workplace and improving communication skills. I also began a technical course in Network Programming at the Liberato Foundation through a scholarship.

2016

First job

After completing the Jovem Aprendiz project, I was hired at the university for a multifunctional role that included TV Broadcast Operator (my main responsibility), Video Editor, Video Archivist, and Cameraman. During this time, I gained a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those working in a TV station, including essay writing, video editing, and overall operations. Getting my first job was not only a significant milestone for me but also for my father, who was a great source of motivation and inspiration. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could see me start my career.

2017

Year of achievements

This year, I achieved many milestones. I graduated from my technical course and presented my completion project at the 2019 Mostratec. This project was significant because it led to my first job as a Trainee at CWI Software.

2019

First BIG challenge

After my first experience in the IT field as a Trainee, I secured my first full-time job as a Full Stack Developer at IBTeC (Brazilian Institute of Technology, Footwear, and Artifacts). Do you know that sensation when you think you know a lot about something, but you actually don’t? That was how I felt on my first day of work. Coming from a background where most of my knowledge was academic, I realized I had a great opportunity to challenge myself and grow in my career.

At IBTeC, I had the autonomy to build projects from scratch, support existing systems, and take responsibility for various technical solutions. I also had the opportunity to participate in the 2020 FIMEC, an international footwear fair. It was a year full of learning, and I felt much better prepared for the job market.

Time to work with a tech team

At the end of the year, a new challenge arose. A company that develops one of the most well-known ERP systems in the state offered me the opportunity to join a team migrating an old mobile application to a new one using updated technologies, as well as supporting web monolith applications.

During my first week, I felt that familiar sensation again: the knowledge I had gained over the past year was not enough, as I faced new technologies, concepts, and methodologies. I realized that IT is incredibly dynamic; it constantly evolves, and no one can know everything because there’s always something new to learn.

In this role, I had the chance to work with a tech team, which significantly improved my communication and technical skills. I also developed a passion for clean code and best practices in software development after discussing these topics with my teammates and reading Clean Architecture by Uncle Bob. It was a transformative year that taught me that being a good developer involves more than just writing, reviewing, or deploying code; it also requires a solid design and testing process, which ultimately saves the company time and resources.

2020

The turning point

A new opportunity arose, bringing increased challenges. Starting a new journey at Sicredi has been incredibly rewarding for my career, allowing me to reflect on how knowledge, effort, and commitment can help you achieve your goals, no matter where you are. Working for the largest cooperative in South America, with thousands of employees across the country and a diverse range of technologies to learn, has made me a more critical thinker with advanced technical skills.

This time, the feeling of “I don’t know much about something” doesn’t seem as relevant. Being here is a source of pride for me because it has shown me that IT is not just about technical skills; it’s also about collaboration, knowledge sharing, developing new professionals, and many other aspects of working with people, not just code.

What 's next?

After gaining several years of experience and seeking a new ambition, I asked myself: What is the next challenge? My answer was to start speaking English. I understand how important English is worldwide, and in the IT field, it’s especially crucial. At that moment, I began taking private and group English lessons at EF English First to build my confidence and improve my grammar, vocabulary, writing, listening, and speaking skills. It was a great starting point to realize that English is a skill for life, not just for work.

2022

One of the best experiences of my life

After a whole year, I significantly improved my English, but I felt I needed something more to challenge myself. That’s when I decided to take on my biggest challenge yet: my first trip abroad to study English. I have no doubt that it was one of the best experiences in my life. Being in Canada opened my eyes to a different reality and culture, reminding me that we don’t have to live in a bubble, there’s so much to explore.

I felt an immense sense of pride while in Canada, knowing that I had planned the trip and worked hard for a long time to study English, all to be on the other side of the world speaking it. It was truly amazing!

2023

Long life learning

It’s been a year full of challenges. I continue my English lessons at Cambly to improve my conversation skills. At Sicredi, I’ve been building scalable and robust applications in the credit recovery field, with the goal of reducing defaults, improving services, and offering new solutions to meet user needs. After a long journey, I became a Spring Developer certified by VMWare.
